DEHRADUN – The much-anticipated #Surya Dev Bhoomi Challenge 2025 officially commenced with an exhilarating Expo held in Harsil on April 17 and a grand Opening Ceremony at Nelang Valley on April 18. This extraordinary event, organized by the Indian Army’s Surya Command in collaboration with Uttarakhand Tourism and Radio Mirchi, aims to blend adventure, heritage, and sustainable development in the breathtaking Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
The Surya Dev Bhoomi Challenge is India’s first-of-its-kind endurance event, uniquely integrating cycling and trail running into a challenging expedition that spans three days from April 18 to April 20. Participants will navigate vibrant cultural landscapes and experience the rich heritage of Uttarakhand while testing their physical endurance and mental resilience.
Event Overview:
Cycling Expedition: 110 km Route (Nelang – Gangotri – Harsil – Bhatwari) on April 18
Trail Running: 37 km Route (Bhatwari – Buddha Kedar) on April 19
Trail + Valley Run: 40 km Total Route (Ghuttu – Triyuginarayan – Sonprayag) on April 20
The routes traveled during the Challenge pass through some of Uttarakhand’s most spectacular and culturally significant landscapes, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey.
At the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General D G Misra, General Officer Commanding, Headquarters Uttar Bharat Area, praised the collaborative efforts of the military, civil administration, and local communities. He remarked, “This initiative exemplifies the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment not only to national security but also to nation-building. We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Uttarakhand in transforming the Himalayas into hubs of sustainable opportunity.”
The key objectives of the Surya Dev Bhoomi Challenge include, Reviving the Historic Old Char Dham Route, promoting Adventure and Winter Tourism, supporting the Vibrant Village Scheme and Reverse Migration and fostering Civil-Military Partnerships for Sustainable Growth. This exceptional event has garnered national attention, celebrating the spirit of adventure while emphasizing grassroots development and the preservation of cultural heritage. The Challenge is supported by various stakeholders, including Uttarakhand Tourism, Radio Mirchi (Media Associate), District Administrations of Uttarkashi, New Tehri, Rudraprayag, Local Panchayats and Community Volunteers
